Corset for G cups?

I'm trying to help a friend find a corset that will fit her nicely. She has G cup breasts and will probably have to have something custom made. Do you guys know a place that has experience making corsets for such large chested women? Any advice or things she should look for in a quality corset?

rib training?

hello everyone! *waves* i was wondering if anyone has any information about rib training with a corset? i've read that over a long period of time it is possible to reshape the rib cage, and that once the reduction is achieved it is possible to maintain it while wearing the corset less. but i haven't found many sources of information, so i'm not sure whether that's accurate. it would be nice if it is, though. and i also wanted to know what the best style(s) of corset are for rib training, what sort of underbust measurement to aim for, etc. any info would be much appreciated, thanks =)

Has anyone bought any of this companies' corsets? I can't see how their prices can be so cheap and the quality still be decent. I would love some feedback before spending any money on one.

Corsets for Back pain

So...
I sew for a "hobby/spending cash" job here at home. It helps me to feel less guilty about spending money on my little crap and not taking out of household funds... (I'm am a stay at home mom).

My back HURTS. I have tried pads, cushions, different chairs... OUCH... I've got muscle relaxers it gets so bad.

How many use your corsets for back support?
and would a standard victorian corset do this? do I need a full corset or just an underbust?

I outgrew the first corset I made... *sigh* and am loaded with orders, so I cant get to the next one I want to make just quite yet.

But.. I'm interested!

I was looking at her store and was wondering what the quality was like? The prices are very reasonable if she is truly selling what she says she is.

how many uses should one expect of, and from, and out of shapewear? i ask because i'm, for the first time, my corset... well, my shiny vinyl waist cyncher, has a tear. which brings me to my question... what are the typical expectations, in terms of usage, should one expect from... corsets? waist cinchers? etc, etc....

does anyone else have this problem?

So today i got my first real corset (Meschantes, 24" training corset) in the mail, enlisted a helper to lace me up and everything. with her help, i got laced up so that there was an even gap between grommets of about 1.5 or 2 inches all the way down the length of the opening in the back. and then, i had this train of thought:
--wow, i look so tiny in this!
--let's bust out the tape measure to see just HOW tiny
--(tape measure found, measurement taken)oh wow... just one inch taken off..

so, i have a natural waist of about 28 inches, but all laced up very tightly (not crazy tight or anything, just what i could handle at the time, which was a significant tightness) i only got down to 27 inches. is this just because the torso goes from being more oval in shape to more cylindrical? because i looked really quite narrow but perhaps the actual circumference of my torso was generally unaffected.

any thoughts? has anyone else experienced this?

I've been checking out some fun sites!

and most seem pretty close with eachother...

Who have you found to have the best customer service??

I've ordered a pattern from Farthingales La and it was here quick with a handwritten thanks on the invoice (I like that, as I do it myself)

Corset making supplies has also been very friendly and has great prices on the ebay store, as well as the regular website store.

I'm just doing some searching. In my size it is not cost effective for me (a professional seamstress) to pay someone to make one for me =)

Thanks!

http://www.scarlettscorset.com/index.html

I have been looking around for a corset (for daily wear) and I've found the ones located on this site to be visually appealing(among other things). but like with most things I need another persons opinion before I press that ever dreaded "buy" button.

feedback is appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm a definite neophyte with corsets. My Dom has me wear one when I'm away from home as a secret reminder of my submission. I started out with a simple waist cincher, but I'm a lovely zaftig lady, so it didn't provide the snugness and constriction I was hoping for. I finally found a real, lacings-up-the-back one this week at Spartacus Leather in Portland and I'm thrilled with it. Next on my list is making my own corset.

Looking for models available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for on location shoots (in various areas around San Francisco and the East Bay). I'm currently working on a BDSM fetish fashion related project for Fall 2008. I'm a fine art photography major at the Academy of Art University and am people specific. I love working with new people and am always willing to hear suggestions and ideas. If you like my portfolio (flickr offers more examples of my older images as well as my B&W and traditional color and alternative photography) please get in contact with me. I shoot only film and can provide prints and digital media as compensation. I'm also up to doing trades in exchange if you have an idea in mind as well.

Zipper vs hook and eye in lieu of busk

This question sounds ignorant even to me, so please bear with me. I began looking for shapewear for work but have a 10" spread between Bust:Waist:Hips so anything less sturdy than steel tends to roll to my middle for the less than ideal Michelin Man look (ugh!). I wear corsets with historical garments, but they don't fit well presently and under modern clothes, the lines are too visible. I stumbled across some very inexpensive corsets with straps using spiral boning that would probably serve in lieu of powernet and plastic boned shapewear. Now the choice is zipper or hook and eye front closure. A zipper would be convenient, but it seems like it would break under pressure. The eBay vendor states that the garment can withstand tight lacing so it seems like it ought to hold up to moderate pressure. Has anyone had experience with either zippers or hook and eye closures?

Thanks in advance for resisting the urge to flame me for not using a standard busk :)

I would love links to some of your favourite corset pattern sites. I've seen some corsets I love, but the price tag is way beyond reach since I would need a custom one to accommodate my ample curves. I'm skilled with sewing and game to build my own if I can find a pattern I like.

I am dying to get my hands on the frilly, sexy FGM corset! However, at $500 it is a bit out of reach. Does anyone know of a corset maker that is less pricey, maybe not quite so fabulous (damn) who sells something similar....or perhaps a site where vintage (used, damn again) are sold? Help! I can feel my fingers reaching for the credit card I just paid off and promised to never use again. Bounty ~*~

Don’t shop at http://www.meschantes.com/ - I bought a corset and even though it didn’t fit, that’s fine. BUT, I also bought a corset liner from this seller. After I won, she e-mailed me saying I should get one. She never sent my liner. Cause she forgot it when sending corset, and didn’t want to pay another shipping fee. She never e-mailed me back after I asked why I never recieved it. I even e-mailed her my receipt for it. She never e-mailed me with an explanation. This was on Ebay, she left me a really psycho negative feedback too. The corset was WAY too short. And it didn’t close right in the back, was made totally wrong for me. I got an unwearable corest and ripped off yey!

Hi
I have a general question - Do you know if there is a tribe set up for selling corsets?

I have several Vollers corsets & 1 Axfords corset as well as many tidbits left over from my shop that I would like to post but I don't know where to on tribe. I figured this would be a good place to ask

Any suggestions?

I recently discovered a corset designer, based in San Francisco, who is producing custom-made leather corsets in stunning asymmetrical designs. Those of you who attended the last Fetish Ball in San Francisco would have seen their pieces in the fashion show, but I wanted to tell anyone who missed the Ball about this great new talent. I just picked up my custom corset and it is my new prized possession.

You can see some of their corsets in pictures they posted on Model Mayhem:

Their website is under construction, but their contact info is listed here:

Deliciously Wicked Puimond Black Patent Leather Corset for Sale!

Deliciously Wicked Puimond Black Patent Leather Corset

Crafted of gleaming black patent leather, this corset is versatile and functional. It can be worn alone or as an sexy accessory to an outfit. It is 12” at center front length and consists of 10 panel pieces. It is the shorter, underbust version of the Victorian corset and comes with 3 pairs detachable garters. Also an excellent choice if tight-lacing is on the agenda. Size 24, this is a waist measurement that should be 4 to 6 inches smaller than natural waist. So it would fit someone with a waist of 28-30 inches.

Here is a link to photos: http://www.puimond.com/py03.htm

Asking $300, or best offer. My rent is due, and you want to look hot!

Corset pricing

I am starting a unique corset line and I am a bit disturbed at some of the prices I am seeing online. Especially on Etsy.com people are parting with heavy duty, fully boned, lined, silk brocade corsets for a less than 200!! Granted I have not purchased any of these corsets so I don’t know the quality, but from looking at some photos they seem pretty sustainable. I did a few custom corsets and was not willing to part with them for less than 600 for an over bust, 400 for an under bust give or take complexity of design. So far I have not had a problem selling a few items but if I wish to sell some corsets on etsy Im screwed! What are your thoughts on the prices of corsets? Is a ready to wear corset only worth a few hundred where as a custom piece worth more to you?
Any thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated.

I have one corset but mayby not so good quality. I searching for a new one, I love the underbust corset. I live in Europe and wonder if anyone has any ideas. I don´t want my first one to be to expensive. I´ve looked around and the one I feel in love with is a corset from Dark Garden, the pointed victorian. So lovlely but a bit to expensive for a first corset.

So I got my first corset yesterday (santa was good too me). I love it. I love the feel of the hugging but while I like that feeling my neck and shoulder is sore immediatly when I put it on. IS this a newbies aches and pains or do I have it to tight? I guess its both but does that goaway soon? got it from http://www.timeless-trends.com/aboutus.htm
i guess I go loosen it up some but I like huggin but hate the aches.

Grannd Company is a little pricy on smaller boning but has the best price once it gets to larger pieces. Although once it gets to hoop skirt boning it doesn't matter whre you go it's all about the same price. The unfortunately use UPS as their mail carrier. Only an 1/8 of my package was actually things I ordered everything else was plastic bag stuffing. It also cost the most with a $8.95 shipping fee.

Deliscious LLC was about equal on all prices for boning and had the di's for the stand alone grommet setter. They are about a dollar more on their gross of grommets. But they use regular mail and don't charge for it. It got here a day later than UPS and was processed 3 days after Grannd Comapny processed mine (they were on a holiday and did notify me when my oder was placed).

All orders took about a week from the day I placed the order online to when they arrived at my door. All stock was with all of them.

Hi,

I would like to try to combine my corsets with "normal" street wear. I only wear corsets occasionaly, I own a dark blue satin corset with silver grey embroidery and a dark red velvet corset. I don´t want to wear them as underwear, the corset should be visible. Do you have any ideas and tips how to combine these with normal clothes?

Thanks for your help!

Using a busk shorter than front opening

So the gold busks only come in very short sizes. I'm not tall, but prefer a longer line corset. Has anyone used a busk that is significantly shorter than the cernter front? I've cheated them a little before, but this is 3 or 4 inches too short! Joanne (Lafnmoon) suggests aligning it with the top and using hooks and eyes to make up the difference. That will leave a few inches unboned and those hooks and eyes had better be sturdy!

Has anyone had experience with this method?

Thanks!
Anne

grommet tools

So I want to buy a good grommet setting tool and am hoping someone has experience with them. I'm sick of buy the cheap hand held ones at JoAnn's and having them work on only 2 grommets before it starts making the grommets all crooked and weird looking.

I am confused though. Do you have to buy separate die & hole punch for each size grommet you use? If so, what size is the most useful to start out with?

I was looking at the ones on this site...
store.corsetmaking.com/Mercha...ant.mvc

thanks in advance!

Reflections!

Once in a great while we as human animals find ourselves at a crossroad of life. We gaze upon our options and meander down our chosen path, seeking a better life, love, or liberty. We often stop a while along our way to talk to a stranger, or perhaps more. We find that although our paths interlace with others who seek a similar conclusion, we either falter, or are swept away by time.

Today, a young woman asked me about the Black Corset shirt I wore, commenting that women really don’t wear corsets anymore! We spoke for about an hour – through which I came to a conclusion that our youth is unaware of the pleasures a corset can bring to a woman.

My slave wife wears her corsets whenever she insists on obtaining my attention! As a DOM with a fetish for corseted ladies, my attention is immediately shifted whenever I see a woman wearing a corset or corset dress!

To all the girls who enjoy the support and perhaps the pleasure that your corseting can bring, KUDO to you All - Choose your path!

It's a off the rack waist cincher, size 24. It just doesn't fit me anymore and I hate seeing such a gorgeous corset sitting in my drawer gathering dust. It's a gorgeous purple satin with a black rose lace overlay.

Bought for $300 and has been worn less than a handful of times.

I'm asking $200 for it.

Dances of Vice Festival - Gothic Victorian costumed ball New York

Salut! I'm Shien Lee, an event promoter in New York City - and I would like to invite all modern dandies, decadents, aesthetes, artists, thinkers, and dreamers to join us on February 8th and 9th for the 2008 Dances of Vice Festival in New York City!

Rasputina will be headlining the festival in the exciting context of a neo-Victorian costumed ball, which will largely appeal to the gothic Victorian, neo-Victorian, steampunk, lolita, vintage lifestyle, glamor, and alternative subculture demographics. As most Rasputina fans would know, the group possesses a distinctly Victorian aesthetic, and often wear corsets on stage. Come show off your lovely corsets at the festival!

The festival will feature a number of gothic Victorian vendors, an art gallery, a vintage Polaroid photo booth, puppet operettas, a costume contest, and much more.

Event flyers can be found on my profile, and festival details can be located at http://www.dancesofvice.com

Limited quantity VIP tickets are on sale now at the website! Hope to meet some of you there!

Heya...

Ever since I read my first Little House on the Prairie book and learned about corseting my curiosity has been piqued.

So now that I am finally at an age that I can explore this aspect of femininity, I am seeking to learn and to try.

So now, my first of what I'm sure to be numerous questions is, where can I get a bonafide corset on a budget in Europe (Strasbourg, France specifically) and what should be looking for? I am truly clueless, but have the desire to learn.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a bunch!

MESCHANTES CORSETS -------- DON"T BUY -- their JUNK

DON"T buy a corset from " Meschantes" Corset Co. We purchased one of their leather corsets which fell apart after only two wearings. We sent it back and they kept it for 4 months, before they returned it to us again. After only 5 weeks the damm thing fell apart again.

The boning was cutting through the leather! We took a CLOSE look at it and found that their bones had not been edged or protected at the ends which caused them to poke through in no time at all!

We again called them and they told us - that our only recourse was to buy another corset from them at a 20% discount. AHHHHH!

MESCHANTES IS A RIP OFF -- DO NOT BUY!

Corset all day, every day

Hello

I've made, altered and fudged corsets and stays from 18 C to present day for drama events. I've noticed that some people are happy to wear a corset for the event only (the play, the wedding etc) while others are happy on an all day every day basis - even when they are formidable by today's standards....1760s and 1880 for example.

Please tell if you could really go for the everyday option.
JESUS CHRIST+JESU KRISTE+YESHUA HAMASHIACH+JESUS CHRISTUS+JESU KRISTU+ISOUS HRISTOS

JESUS CHRIST+JESU KRISTE+YESHUA HAMASHIACH+JESUS CHRISTUS+JESU KRISTU+ISOUS HRISTOS

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophesy and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. REVELATION 1:3

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." REVELATION 11:3

He who testifies to these things says, " Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. REVELATION 22:20-21

+++

Everyone, has the responsibility to find the truth for themselves. What is stated below, must be researched and verified, so that every individual can then decide to accept, or discard it as myth. The only truth is God the Father, the Son our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Read the Bible, pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance and our Lord Jesus Christ will not abandon you, but will place the truth in your heart.

+++

We must not try to copy the world, but be different to it, as the example set by our Teacher, our Lord Jesus Christ. Being the same as the world, sharing its base values, being part of the fashion trends, is all part of Satan's system (Sex changes that are taking place ever more frequently and therefore not knowing anymore who is a man or a woman). The Pope of Rome is one of Satan's instruments (the Papists have immense power and wealth, our Lord Jesus Christ was humble and owned nothing). Talmudists/Zionists want to rebuild Solomon's Temple and proclaim their own false king of the world (there is only one King of the Jews and Orthodox Christians and that is our Lord Jesus Christ). Their power base is the U.S.A (Superpower of the world). They contol many governments, banks, newspapers, television stations (the media in general), etc. We must not forget the very elusive and cunning Masonic Lodges which form part of Satan's means to spread anti-Christian and heretic information. Television and video has been one of the most powerful tools of Satan, which has ruined the ethics which sustained our youth and the family unit. With pornography in all its forms, men have been misled and subsequently their women, a whole generation of our youth and their families have been devoured by Satan. We have forgotten about God, the Bible and prayer and have allowed ourselves to go down the road to hell and have fallen into Satan's trap (in other words we are slaves to flesh and our desires). Hedonism is the aim of humanity.

The group that is attempting to rule the world, consists of three member countries, U.S.A, Europe and Japan (3 presidents). Their central control, consists of 32 members (of the 29, 8 are Americans; 9 from Japan; 12 from the European Union (contolled from Belgium/Luxembourg). Head of the 3 member group is Rockefeller (his head quaters is in Rhodes, Greece; his specific influence is in the U.S.A and E.U). Whoever does not obey the orders of this group are murdered. Death is the penalty for disobedience. Another Satanic "club" is called, Bildeberg. They can destroy any government and put a new one together again. They can make a country vanish and create a new one too. 200 members, which include intelligence agencies (CIA; BIA; BND (Ger.); SIB (Ital.); SPELA (Fra.)). There are members who are involved with NATO and hold important positions in the US administration, etc. They hold an extremely harsh stance against the East, especially with Russia because of its Christian Orthodox heritage. They exterminate/demolish any opposition.

An enemy going back thousands of years is head quatered in China (the Himalayas/Tibet). The Seljuks come from that region, who are the ancestors of the Turks, who attacked and oppressed Christian Orthodoxy in Asia Minor and Greece. The Turks/Jews have tried many times to wipe out the Greeks and Christian Orthodoxy. They call the Greeks and Christian Orthodoxy, the people of the "Blue Trigramaton" (which is refering to the Holy Light that emenates from our Lord Jesus Christ's tomb). The roots of martial arts is that region spoken of above. Martial arts are Satanic and anti-Christian and yet has our youth spellbound under the innocent guise of sport/fitness. In the Himalayas there is a glass pyramid (Sambala), it has many entrances. This is where the White Brotherhood is based. It's aim is to destroy all the world's religions except its own. It has more power than the U.S.A. It has more resources at its disposal than all the governments in the world. It has infiltrated and controls many governments and religions (Roman Catholics, Protestants and Judaism). The First and Second World Wars were masterminded by them. They are going to start the Third World War too. The White Brotherhood works with the Bildeberg club and all the others. They are assisted by the Zionists. They created Hitler and introduced the Swastika (broken cross, that is what it means). Hirohito of Japan was responsible for a massive bloodbath, but he was not punished like the others, after the Second World War because he was a member of the world ruling 3 member group mentioned above. Grey Wolves (Turkish Muslims), are connected to the White Brotherhood. Only Grey Wolves members may rule Turkey. They must always mantain a harsh stance against Greece/Christian Orthodoxy (Turgut Ozal, was exterminated for his softer stance).

The White Brotherhood want to destroy the followers of Jesus Christ. They call His followers, bipods or two-legged ones. Their methods are many: thirst, hunger on a worldwide scale. All plants and forests must be destroyed. Wars, so as to ensure maximum slaughter. They refer to humanity as a chicken breeding farm. They destroy humanity with drugs; they have contaminated our drinking water (it has been doctored with medication); our food is also contaminated and our clothes too from the fancy washing powders that we use (that is why everyone is getting ill and they don't know why). Thirst on a worldwide scale, for eg.. Euphrates to be dried up because of Turkey, which will lead to a confrontation with Iran/Syria. Hunger, for eg., Russia was the world's wheat provider, even the U.S.A relied on her. The White Brotherhood ensured that Russia would starve. In Moscow young women give themselves for a plate of food. Homosexuality, the U.S.A being its banner. One can go on and on, but there will be no end then. It is devestating. But do not despair, if you are a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ because He has defeated Satan and the world.

(This is a summarized version and a translation of a tape recording in Greek, from a Greek Orthodox perspective ofcourse, given to me by a Monk at Calvary/Golgotha in Jerusalem, Christmas, 2001. I cannot divulge any names, nor my own because this is a very dangerous subject. You will have to verify the truthfullness of the matter yourself. Please excuse my errors of spelling or other. May God forgive me if I am wrong about any of this, but I do it with honest intentions. God bless you. From a humble follower of our Lord Jesus Christ.)

+++

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." JOHN 16:33

+++

"LORD JESUS CHRIST, HAVE MERCY ON ME."

Two Dark Garden Corsets for Sale

Hello... I have two Dark Garden corsets that I am selling, each has only been worn about three times ( to the opera). They are in impeccable condition and I am selling only because I have lost weight and shrunk out from under them (damned expensive weight loss if you ask me....)

One is a Classic Victorian, straight across the bosom, deep curve at the waist.
The other is the Sweetheart Longline, luscious heart shaped bosom, itty bitty waist.

Both are in purple silk with gold fern accents (I have put pictures of one of them up in my profile pics so that you can see the fabric).

These retail new at a minimum of $700. but I don't get just the basics, the fabric is silk, the bone casings are lined up to match the pattern of the fabric and they each come with the back insert, I don't think that I paid less than $900. for each of them. Needless to say they are stunning.

I'm asking $450. each.

my current measurements (fully clothed with a bra): 45 : 34 : 42.5 I am very busty and have a natural hourglass figure so if you are more full figured person then these will be perfect. Since I have lost weight both corsets now close completely in the back and my bust is smaller and doesn't fill out the top. (The pictures are a bit deceptive both on my bust size - they aren't *that* big - and the way the top of the corset fits, it is actually very loose)

You can email me through tribe for more detailed questions, I live in SF if you are interested in seeing them.

I am looking for a good corset pattern. I like the Victorian Rein. kinda, but I also like the ones that don't exactly support themselves (the ones you wear with a bra). Any suggestions?

I just wanted to see if there would be any interest in a beginning corset class...Basicly covering the do's and don't , how to wear them, how to tie them, how to care for a corset etc.

low back pain - pattern alteration to fix?

background - was in a renn group, made durndles with lots of boning. They felt good. Always planned to make a corset or 5.
Now I'm getting around to finalizing my corset pattern - started with a bought pattern - honestly, I'll have to go look at which one... I think it was one of the Big 3. I've played with it, have my 'almost there' pattern in duck. Got it on, laced it up, going 'ew' with some of the waist wrinkles were I've gained and my waist has 'risen'. So I need to shorten it that way...

Problem is, I really noticed an ache in my lower back that I don't remember with the durndles. Is it just a natural side effect of pulling my waist in more than it's used to?Or is there some specific cause and fix for it? It's still a little achy, and I only wore if for maybe an hour while making notes for the next edit.

Have I just been too long out of a tight laced garment? Or do I need to fix something before I commit to the brocade?

Custom wedding corset + skirt...who?

Hello!

Planning for a wedding (quite early) and I am trying to find someone who does custom (or has a large variety of materials) corsets AND skirts.

I want a huge ballroom skirt, tulle, etc. and can add beading myself and a sweetheart neckline corset, preferably that goes over the hips...

Who can you recommend?
Any good "costumers" make these kinds of items?

I used to do some corset modeling for Meschantes and they are wonderful...so they are my #1 right now...but I want some more options!

Thanks muchly in advance!

(: Lia :)

Scoliosis? Consider Stretch...

Before you jump down my throat at the word "stretch" - allow me to explain. I have idiopathic scoliosis (read: stupidly crooked back) and have had very little success finding a corsetmaker who could make something that would actually fit. Not only is my spine a bit bent, my waist is higher on one side than the other, plus my rib cage is larger in girth on one side that the other - not an easy thing to draft a pattern around. And not an easy thing to accept when you adore corsets as much as I do, but can't wear them because the fit is never quite right. Most corsetieres I asked wouldn't even touch a two-sided (asymmetrical) custom pattern, and I'm not surprised because they are very time-consuming to make.

I tried my hand at making them myself, and out of 7 attempts only ONE was near perfect, and even so I think it was more of a fluke than anything. I had Starkers! make one, and although Dianna did an incredible job, the final cost was around $600 (shipping a mock-up back and forth included) and took 9 months. And as beautiful as it is, my back aches if I wear it for more than 3 hours. Talk about heartbreaking. BUT... conversationally, a friend asked if the cheap stretchy 'corsets' (you know, the $30-$50 lingerie store ones) I used to wear many moons ago ever hurt my back and I had to admit they didn't - but they were cheap, the boning was easily bent out of shape after a few wears, and they didn't last. So I started looking around for someone who could make a corset out of stretchy fabric, but fully bone it with steel. They must have looked at me (well, my emails) like I had arms growing out of my head.

To my eventual suprise I found a lady in Australia who already makes them (Volancia - www.volancia.com). The only thing that makes her "Lissome" underbust corset different from any other is the fabric - three layers of thick stretchy bengaline. I ordered mine with the outer fashion fabric in stretch satin - basic, but classy. I simply must rave about this because not only did she complete the job in a month and a half, not only was the bill a mere $220 (including mock-up), not only was it very professionally made, but it is easily the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. My back loves me now. Despite the stretch I get a fair bit of cinch (not a lot mind you, but then again I can't handle a lot because my weird shape won't allow it), and it hugs me like a glove. Given all the different stress points I've got compared to the average mostly-symmetrical person due to my odd shape, it doesn't twist or squish me unevenly because the stretch "gives" where it needs to give. Sure, the bengaline doesn't breathe quite like cotton does, but I'd rather be a bit warm than in pain.

My main point is - for those of you who adore corsets but either a) have had a heck of a time getting a good fit despite accurate measurements (you may even be a bit crooked and not know it yet), or b) already have significant scoliosis and would love to wear a proper professionally made corset but can't, I highly recommend Volancia's stretchy "Lissome".

Corset caution!

New Zealand : Corset caution!
August 6, 2007

Corset, the altered version of the 15th century inner garment bodice, which is now an important accessory for fashionistas, has already made its mark in international fashion arena.

The world fashion markets are splashed with custom corsets as inner and outer-wear. These are sold as hot cakes among those who emphasize on having a curvaceous figure.

However, as every coin has two sides, wearing a corset also has few ill consequences.

Doctors warn that problem in breathing and crushing of internal organs could be a side-effect of corset, which requires very tight lacing.

Brian Morton, Vice-President of Australian Medical Association's NSW branch, has identified that wearing tight shaped garments and corsets could result to fluid retention, gastric reflux and deep-vein thrombosis.

Corsets might be a cinch to get into, and are back in style, but there are still some dangers in being tightly laced.

Corsets, and their underwear cousins the girdle or slimming garments, are making a comeback. But women need to be aware of their effect.

Michelle Barton, of Auckland's Costume Studio, said corsets were very popular at the moment. The store makes custom corsets for both under and outer-wear, and an inner-city store had recently requested a regular stock of their product.

"It's not just the full corsets - the half-corsets, or waist cinchers, which sit just below your bust, are also really popular at the moment. They are a bit more comfortable to wear, too."

Air New Zealand Fashion Week organiser Pieter Stewart said she expected to see corsets on the catwalks this year. "They are very sexy, especially worn as tops, in the summer or the evening."

Celebrities seen trussed up include singers Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera, and actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Scarlett Johansson.

AdvertisementHowever, while corsets aren't the instruments of torture they used to be - metal stays are now used rather than whale bone, and a 14-inch waist is no longer held up as the ideal - health professionals still have concerns about their impact on the body.

Doctors warn that restricted breathing and crushing of internal organs could be a side-effect of the older style of corset which requires very tight lacing, while the vice-president of the Australian Medical Association's NSW branch, Brian Morton, has identified that fluid retention, gastric reflux and deep-vein thrombosis could also be experienced from wearing tight shaper garments and corsets.

University of Auckland sociology lecturer Lane West-Newman said there was an argument corsets were used in Victorian times to control women.

"Then there's another strand that says shaping your body as you want it to be empowers women." Ultimately, West-Newman said, the celebrity association with corsets meant they would be popular.

"We live in this kind of consumer society where there's a perpetual push to find more and more objects for consumption ... so people think 'why don't we bring back the corset, there's something that hasn't been around for a while'."

Meanwhile, US television shows such as Oprah and Dr Phil have also promoted various shaping garments, with Tyra Banks even showing off her own slimming briefs on camera during an episode of The Tyra Banks Show.

There has also been an increase in the prevalence of body-shaping undergarments. The designer of the Xtreme Plunge Bodysuit, Bruno Schiavi, told a Sydney newspaper the industry had grown by 300 per cent in recent times.

Schiavi claimed the restrictive garment provided an alternative to "risky" plastic surgery options.

Selling my Stormy Leather, a few undercorsets (20" and up), a leather gartered corset, etc. I have photos in my tribe album (was a corset model through the '90's)--is there a marketplace where one can list these items? I mean, I know through tribe.net, but do you know, anyone, of any group listings?

Thanks so much,

I have just received my first real corset, a custom number from Delicious Corsets, and it is truly a most joyous garment. I have one small problem though. I am flying home to Massachusetts this sunday and I would rather like to take it with me instead of shipping it. Does anyone have any experience taking corsets on airplanes? Will the metal cause me problems?

I have a vintage Camp corset with fan lacers. I have laces. Can anyone tell me how to put the two together? I'm totally confused as one side has eight holes and the other has 11, and they're not evenly spaced, either. It's a side lacer. If anyone can help, I'd be forever grateful.

So I pattern and make my own corsets, but they never turn out as beefy and sturdy as say, Dark Gargens or other expensive corets. I use lining, interlining and interfacing, I use the cheap steel boneing at Britex. Anyone know of classes in the bay area to take on proper corset construction?

I'm super short-waisted so I'm suspecting that's the issue.. all I know is any off-the-rach corset I've tried has a mind of it's own....

corest pattern for really tiny woman?

Hi all.. I have an extremely petite person who'd like me to build a corset for them.. it will be my first... I have the Butterick... oh I have no brain... their History patterns.. but they don't go small enough.. this woman is like a size zero...yet somehow curvy...and under 5 feet tall..

Anyway.. any guidance as to patterns, links to creating my own pattern, etc. .. and any yays or boos about the Butterick pattern would be much appreciated..

Thanks!

so I bought a corset pattern...

an "historical reproduction" pattern that seemed to know it's shit. Imagine my surprise when I start going at it and the instructions for this so-called corset involve only one layer of fabric. I KNOW there's more to it than that. I'm guessing that in addition to the outside pretty fabric, I should have a cotton or sateen lining, a twill inner layer, interfacing, and.....what? Buckram? Am I missing anything vital? Other than the ten bucks I spent on this stupid pattern?

Hey! i LOVE my Meshantes Corset. If you custom ordered and it isn't right then the person who measured you was clueless. Mine is a PERFECT fit. A seamstress friend made the measurements and the garment was worth every penny. i constantly get comliments. No matter who you might buy from, get proper measurements. That is the key!

I've owned a couple corsets overtime. They've all been cinchers, no overbusts.
They've all been handmedowns, so the fit's always been... interesting.
Last week I got fitted for the mock up of my very first overbust custom.
I can't tell you how thrilling to see something that's shaped like me!

It looked and felt SO good.
There will definitely be pictures.

Less Pricey Corset with Straps??

Sadly, Dark Garden is waaaay out of my financial league at this point, but I find myself wanting a corset in Dark Garden's Amazon or Empress style - a scoop neck with sturdy straps - not just bra staps attached to a strapless corset, mind you!

http://www.darkgarden.com/corsets_women_detail.asp?productid=cor114

Does anyone know of a less expensive maker, more on the level of of Meschantes, but that does a strappy style?

Thanks!

Grommet setter rental SF or South Bay

Does anyone know of a place that rents their grommet setter in SF or the South Bay at large? I've mislaid mine and have a project due right away. Laci's is out of reach for me due to their limited hours and my schedule. It would be very helpful to find someone who - like Laci's - will also sell 00 grommets as mine are probably with my setter!

Thanks

An every day corset?

I just finished my first corset, half on a whim, and half for formal wear. I wasn't expecting how comfortable it would be--specifically, so much more comfortable than a bra! So, I was thinking about switching to corsets 24/7. Do they work as foundational garments under 21st century clothes? The corset I made was the Dore victorian corset by Laughing Moon. The design makes a visual line under shirts at the top of the corset. Is there a way to remove that line (a wide binding, perhaps?) or is there another pattern that I should try? Or will corsets just not work?

The corset also "pops out" at the very bottom 1-2" or so, which shows under dresses. Is that part of a corset fit or is the corset too loose at the hips? (Pardon my utter ignorance about corsets).

Cleaning a corset

So I got a corset from Dark Garden a couple of years ago, and ever since then I've just been spot treating it by hand. Well I moved and it got a little dirty, so I was wondering how everyone else washes their corsets. Should I take it to a dry cleaner or should I just wash it by hand?
